2F Demonstration Area of a Window with Iron Grating

Luzhou City in Taipei County had a residential fire on August 31, 2003; 13 people were killed and 71 injured. It was the worst case of a residential fire in Taiwan in recent years and highlights the amalgamated dwellings that focus more on the prevention of thievery more than the prevention of fire, so the iron grilles and grating on balconies tend to become an obstacle when escaping fire and causes serious casualties. You wouldn't want to experience this in your own home.

When installing iron grating, make sure there is a window left without a grille and ensure one side can be opened.

  • Iron windows and bars cage the house, leaving no escape route.

In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of residential fires, iron grating has become a major obstacle to escaping from fire, and a serious fire prevention issue. Even though iron gratings are installed over doors and windows at home, the public are informed that they should be aware of escape equipment in case of fire.

Typhoon and wind and rain disaster response methods can be divided into several stages:

    Before the typhoon

Watch the weather report or listen to the radio for the latest typhoon developments; clean outdoor guttering and roof drainage holes to prevent blocked water; check whether the doors and windows are firmly shut; windward-facing doors and windows should be equipped with windproof boards to prevent glass from breaking; hanging objects outdoors such as signboards, scaffolding and fences should be removed or reinforced; branches on trees should be trimmed and outdoor pots brought indoors; ensure you have a working flashlight, DC radio, batteries, three days of food, drinking water and other daily necessities. People living in river or low-lying areas should move to higher areas as soon as possible.

    When the typhoon hits
Do not go outdoors if not necessary, avoid using candles to prevent fires when power failure occurs, continue to listen to the radio and pay attention to developments so you are aware of which disaster prevention measures to take, and call 119 for assistance in emergencies.

    After the typhoon
Do not touch broken wires – contact the power company for repairs; check whether the housing structure, electrical appliance and gas pipeline are damaged; clean the surrounding area, remove rubbish and water blockages; disinfect the area and help clean it up; continue to listen to the weather report; report any neighbor loss to the community authorities, police station or district administrative office, and take photos as evidence for disaster statistics and tax reductions. Typhoons are an unavoidable natural phenomenon and although they can cause devastation, they also bring an abundance of rain for people and for irrigation. As long as we take proper precautions, we can turn danger into a positive and ensure the health and safety of people and property.

  • 2F "Earthquake Escape VR Experience Area"

Our second floor features an "Earthquake VR Chamber Escape Experience Area", which is divided into Zone A (single player mode) and Zone B (multiplayer mode), all with the theme of earthquakes, allowing visitors to  experience the scene of an earthquake at home. There is also virtual reality and four roles (granddad, dad, older sister and younger sister) as options so visitors can go through each situation from different perspectives and learn more about pre-disaster preparedness (such as fixing furniture, preparing emergency shelter kits, etc.) and emergency response (such as getting low to the ground, taking cover and holding onto something fixed, as well as turning off furnaces, etc.).
